Over the years, I’ve read through several devotionals. My favorite so far has to be Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening because it holds so many deep, well-stated truths. Other devotionals, however, especially teen/kids devotionals, have fallen flat for me. They come off shallow and very simple, which was a little annoying even back when I was a teen. However … The Whispers God Gives is a completely different story!
Though I’m not a teen anymore, I found these devotions simple yet profound. They’re easy enough for children to understand, yet deep enough that an adult can gain much from them. I loved Ellen’s easy-to-read writing style, and the short real-life stories were so meaningful. She related these stories both to Biblical truths as well as examples as to how the Lord had taught her truths through suffering and trials. Each one of these devotionals was impactful and laced with godly wisdom. There was no straying away from the difficulties of life, but rather an emphasis on the way God can use all of our trials for our good and for His glory. I deeply enjoyed reading through this devotional, and I think this would be a perfect devotional for teen girls (and older!)
