And I’m back, only two months after my last update! (I am getting better at this, judging my last update came after nearly four months of radio silence.)
So the big accomplishment this time around was publishing Unworthy! I finished it around the first of February, and that was after much travail and many edits. 😊 Anyway, it’s out in the world now, so if you’d like to check it out, it’s available in print and ebook!
As for book #3 … I blazed through the first edits. It was so much fun, and it was probably the best first edits I’ve had so far. I loved digging into these characters’ personalities, and I’ve been kind of surprised by how interesting and encouraging they are (at least their problems and how they finally come to see them. Not necessarily their personalities …)
Anyway, now I’m on the second edit, and things are … interesting. School and life in general has suddenly become much busier, and most days, I only have about an hour each night to edit. (One hour. At night. To edit.)
Yeah, it’s difficult. Getting through one scene per night is about as good as I can ever hope for, and most nights, I don’t complete that scene. It’s been pretty hard—back in that slogging part of editing—but some days are better the others. (Spring break was helpful.) But the key thing is … keep on marching. And praying, really, really hard. 😊
But I do have exciting news that’s not just about slogging through edits.
I started a new project!!
(Sorry, that had to have multiple exclamation marks because of how exciting it is. Nearly a whole year of only rewriting/editing can feel like a desert.)
If you got my March newsletter (sign up here if you’d like!), you already got a sneak peek of this project. I obviously can’t escape Russia and all my friends there, so we’re back in Moscow with book #6 of the Grace Sufficient series!
I’m really excited about this book, and it feels a lot like home. Presumably, this might be the last in the series, so this plot happens to involve everyone from the prior five books. (Yes, it’s a nightmare juggling everyone, but I love them anyway. And everyone is so old now. I feel like a mom watching her kids grow up and go to college or something.)
So those are all my updates for now – so you talk to me! How is your writing going? Or are you editing, too? Let me know how your projects are going!
So exciting! I know what you mean by life become crazy busy…lol…I can’t imagine how crazy it’s going to be for me when I start college this fall…haha…I’m super excited about all you bookish news!!!
I’m almost done with formatting World of Silence and then it’s on to setting up the blog tour!
Best of luck to you in your writing and editing adventures! I’ll be praying for you!

Oh yeah, college makes everything really busy. 🙂 It’s definitely a test of time management and discipline – which I fail at often, hahaha! But you’ll get the feel for it, and after a while, you’ll fall into a routine. 🙂
Yay!!!! That is so exciting. I’m excited to get to read it. 🙂
Aw, thank you so much! I appreciate the prayers so very much. I need all I can get. And I’ll be praying for you, too!! 🙂

Ooh, a new project??? How exciting!!! (Apparently I didn’t get your newsletter, because this is the first I’ve heard of it…so I’ve signed up again, just in case!) Can’t wait to hear more! And good luck with those edits!!!
I’m, like, only a chapter away from finishing BAD (no, I don’t believe that; yes, I wanna write eight more chapters; no, I won’t; so, yes, I’mma write a companion novella; and, yes, I am totally leaving this on a humongous cliffhanger)…so I’m kinda dreading all the editing I’ll have to do once I finish. MUST IT END?! XD

Yes, yay for new projects! 🙂 (Hmm, yeah, I’ve been having issues with the confirmation email going to people’s spam. That might be what’s happening, so you might want to check your spam folder. I have issues with technology …) Aw, thank you!
Nooooo! A cliffhanger again? (But then again, I wouldn’t feel as if I were reading a Grace Johnson book if there weren’t a cliffhanger, so …) And a companion novella too? Yes for more about Rina and Co. And who doesn’t dread editing – especially when it’s 200K words? 😉 I can’t wait to read it!

Absolutely! (Well, I’ve checked my spam recently, and there was nothing…but I think you’re right, that I didn’t get the confirmation email the first time…but I got it this time, so we’re all good!) You’re so welcome! ❤
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! (Exactly!) Of course!! Aww, haha! AUGH YES. I can't wait to share it!!!!

Strange. Technology is soooo weird. Thank you for subscribing and bearing with my struggles with tech! 🙂
Oh dear. Should I be alarmed? Probably. But I’ll love it so much that it won’t matter. 🙂

Congrats on “Unworthy”, and congrats on your new project! Can’t wait to hear more about it.
Ugh. Editing can be both easy and hard. You’re tenacious, though, and it seems like you like editing, so I have no doubt you’ll be able to accomplish editing your book despite the limits life has provided you. Praying is definitely necessary, both for your sanity and for praying you catch every typo that’s somehow avoided the other rounds of edits.
My writing’s been a whirlwind (am I losing my sanity? Quite possibly.) Final edits on DECEIVED (how can there still be typos? How?) and I finished Shattered Reflection at a whopping 101,000 words. Yeah. I’m cutting it. But betas seem to be liking it for the most part, so that’s good news.

Aw, thank you, Madi! 🙂
You’re so right. Editing is so fickle. One day it’s a blast, and another it’s ridiculously impossible. Aww, thank you for that! (And sometimes I like editing … sometimes I really don’t. 😉 ) And so true – prayer is so important. We can’t do anything without our Savior.
Well, we’re already insane since we’re writers, but maybe editing destroys our last shred of it … 🙂 And those typos are so tenacious. Always. Little dudes are impossibly stubborn. Ugh, 101,000 … that’s when desperate cutting starts happening. 🙂 But I’m sure it’s epic. I’m excited to hear more about it – and to read DECEIVED soon!! 🙂

Hey Vanessa! Congratulations on publishing Unworthy! Ooo, your new project sounds like a lot of fun! I can’t wait to start one of my own (in the trenches of editing myself, so I feel ya there XD) Keep at it! You’ll get to the end soon! 🙂

Uh, girl, I SO feel you…I only have about one hour in the afternoon to work on outlining my book. XD 🤪
I’ll be praying for you. You got thisss. 😉

Aww, thanks, Ava! 🙂
Yep, it’s so hard to work with such limited time. It’s hard to get into the swing of things, then your one hour is over so quickly …
And thank you!! I’ll be praying for you, too! 🙂

That’s so awesome that the first edits for the third book went well!! That’s tough having only one hour at night to do the second edits… yikes! I was getting rather annoyed at the increasingly shorter amounts of time I have to work on my WIPs but your situation puts things into perspective… my situation could be much worse. I’ll be praying for you! 🙂 ❤
And eeee I'm so excited for the new project you're beginning, the 6th book!! 😀 *cues applause in background* 😉

It was lovely to have easy first edits, praise the Lord! And yes, it is hard to work with only one hour of editing (the other hour is an attempt at writing), but I just need to get better and knuckling down and charging through the edits. 🙂 And thank you so much for the prayers – I’ll be praying for you, too! Writers honestly function best – at least in my experience – when we have like four hours or more to write, so anything less than that can be difficult. 🙂
Aww, thank you! It’s been a lot of fun. 🙂
