Wow, I had no clue there was an actual Indie Author Day until a few days ago. But I will take any chance I get to talk about some of my favorite authors and books! The vast majority of indie books I’ve read are extremely well-done and deserve just as much publicity as any traditionally published books. In fact, since indie publishing gives authors much more freedom than traditional, indie books are usually more creative and hard-hitting. So if you’re new to indie authors, give them a try! The sheer variety of indie books is epic – as you will see in just a second.
So happy Indie Author Day, and I hope you’ll check out some of the indie authors below. These are just a few in a vast array of authors, and by no means an exhaustive list.
Katherine Barger – The Exiled Trilogy
Are you looking for action-packed YA books? Go no further – this thrilling series is for you. I love Katie’s mission of writing God-honoring books in a genre that needs good books so badly!
Maribeth Barber – Operation Lionhearted
This is the author who convinced me that sci-fi novels aren’t scary, unapproachable things. Actually, they can be amazing reads filled with great characters and high stakes!
Jayna Baas – For Liberty & Conscience
Preacher on the Run was one of my first indie reads, and this set a high standard! For you historical fiction fans, I have the book for you. Jayna weaves great morals and stories right into a thick layer of incredible research.
Virginia Henderson – Abundant Blessings Series, Log Off Trilogy
Virginia has this amazing talent of taking something everyday and turning it into a thrilling plot! She’s quite a versatile author, too, ranging from suspense to gentle Christmas novels (which are perfect for this time of year, by the way.)
Grace A. Johnson – Daughters of the Seven Seas
You’ll have to search long and hard to find an author as passionate about beautiful stories and the Gospel as Grace Johnson is. Oh, and she writes sweeping stories about pirates. ‘Nuff said?
Angie Thompson – Quiet Valor
Angie is my most recent indie author find, and I am so glad we connected! A Threat and a Promise had such beautiful relationships (outside of romances!) and a thrilling plot. I’m excited to read more by this author!
Hannah Foster – Ella Pursued, Something Sweet Someone Sweet
If you’re looking for a clean contemporary romance author, Hannah is the one you’re looking for! I love the gentle, sweet romance she writes—something that can be hard to find nowadays!
Erika Mathews – Truth from Taerna
So many fantasy series include aspects that I don’t feel comfortable reading (eg., magic), but Erika’s books are completely free from magic and are very clean! More importantly, they tackle spiritual/moral questions that are relevant in day-to-day life.
Kristina Hall – The Moretti Trilogy, A Better Country
Um … I’m incredibly biased. I know.
But you have to check this author out. Completely clean, Gospel-filled, action-packed, well-written … I could go on and on about these books. (And if you didn’t know, the third book in The Moretti Trilogy is about to be released …)
Kellyn Roth – The Chronicles of Alice and Ivy
See, I promised variety. The Chronicles of Alice and Ivy are a family saga set in England (and in America for a bit, I believe) in the 19th century. If you’re a fan of British fiction, check these out!
Abigail Kay Harris – Oh, the Brave
Don’t read the first in this series unless you have some tissues nearby. (Just a warning!) Abigail writes such amazing characters in difficult situations, and I’m excited to read the rest of the series!
Katja H. Labonté – Sing a Song Again
Katja has a beautiful writing style, and Sing A Song Again was filled with such gorgeous truth! I’m excited to see upcoming work from her – I love reading authors whose hearts are poured into their stories so much!
Are any of these authors new to you?
Let me know who your favorite indie authors are!
Oooooo AWESOME list!!!!! I’ve been wanting to read a Kellyn Roth book for a VERY long time now. I think she was one of the first indie authors I’d ever heard of and I still haven’t gotten to read something from her…. *hides* YESS!!! Grace Johnson and Kristina Hall are AMAZING!!!! I haven’t really read most of these books yet, so I will DEFINITELY have to check them out!!!!! =)
